10 Lessons I’ve Learned in Living the Life I Want
Summary: Reflecting on her 10th anniversary of writing the book, Finding Passion, Jessica looks back on her journey to rediscovering herself, overcoming burnout and high achieving into the purpose-driven life she lives now. Here’s 10 lessons to her younger self.
The Power of Setbacks
My greatest setbacks in my career were the greatest lessons. These were the times I gained the most personal growth outside my comfort zones. Feedback is a Gift.
The Impact of Self-Awareness
Each time I make a change in my life, I start with self-reflection. I think about what I want, and what’s really getting in my way. I’m getting in tune with myself and my wishes. This simple step prepares me to begin the process to make change last because I’m self-motivated. Look inward to move forward.
The Role of Advice
It’s easy to compare ourselves to others or take someone’s advice of what you “should” do. Advice can be helpful in some circumstances, and provides a quick fix. Self-discovery leads to lasting change.
The Significance of Inner Wisdom
What surprised me is how my intuition always knows. What feels good or brings joy is the path forward. It was hard at first to trust myself, however my values provide an inner compass to guide me from within. The answers can be found within.
The Simplicity in Taking Small Steps
My favorite strategy is the Stepping Stone Approach. Once I can see the direction I want to go, I take small steps towards that direction. With each step, I move forward. Bring your Ultimate Future forward.
The Potential of Daydreaming
Dreams from long ago held clues about what I wanted in my life. All dreams can become reality when I put my energy and attention into the things that make me happy. Daydreaming creates the blueprint.
The Power of One Question
There’s one question that I ask myself daily. My first Coach asked me this, and it sparked my biggest breakthroughs. The question is, “What do I really want?” Ask the questions that are difficult to ask yourself.
The Ease of Making Decisions
Using my personal values, every decision I make in life is my own. Decisions are aligned to my future direction. Decisions are supported by my personal values. Making decisions aligned to your values means no regrets.
The Realization I’m a Lifelong Learner
No matter how many tools I gain, I will never be done learning. There will always be new tools I need to meet the moment. Lifelong learning means being in love with all that I don’t know.
The Impact of Letting Go
Every time I let go, something amazing happens. Letting go can be anything from an expectation, to old beliefs, to what you thought would happen. Letting go creates the space for possibilities.
